Traders at a shopping centre are in shock after being told they only have four days of trading left.

More than 20 businesses at the InShops centre, in High Street Wealdstone, were given a letter yesterday informing them their last trading day will be on Saturday July 20.

The letter, informing them of a termination of licence, gives businesses the deadline of 4pm on Sunday July 28 to vacate their unit.

Jenny Lawrence-Ricketts, who has run Jenny’s Cards for four years, said: “When I first read it I was quite calm but I had to look at it a second time to be sure and then it sank in.

“It is just unbelievable. I’m very upset that all this will be coming to an end and I haven’t had a chance to say goodbye to all my customers.

“At the end of the day this is my livelihood and I just don’t know what I am going to do when Saturday comes.”

Agi Njaii, who owns the Gorgeous Hair Show and has traded at the centre for eight years, said: “When I first read the letter I was just shocked but now I am just angry.

“We have a wedding group booked in on Monday and we will not be able to do it. We are going to lose our business and it is just unfair to give us such short notice.”

Hash Bhanji, has run Razzaq Stationers in the centre for ten years.

He said: “You can’t just close a business in four days. We have suppliers and  customers we are going to have to talk and move everything. It just very unfair.”

There is confusion among the traders as the letter is dated Tuesday June 16, which was in fact a Sunday.

There are 28 InShops indoor shopping centres and market halls around the country, and the Wealdstone centre has been open for more than 20 years.

The Harrow Times has contacted InShops Centre Ltd about the plans for the site and the closure of the centre and is awaiting a reply.
