A woman who was bullied as a child is in the running to become the face of a lingerie brand.
Sophia Adams, who was severely bullied at school for her chubby appearance and unruly hair, has beaten more than 1,000 women to make it to the top ten of the Star in a Bra competition to become the new face of D plus underwear brand Curvy Kate, based in Elmgrove Road, Harrow.
Now a trainee police constable, the 21-year-old from Northolt wants to be a positive role model for other curvy girls.
She said: “I was always on the chubby side and my hair was an untameable mess. I was called every name under the sun from whale to man-beast, and a lot of other disgusting things too.
“My grandmother was such a strong-minded woman and always told me I was beautiful even when I didn't see it.
“She's not here anymore but she was the most important person in my life growing up and always will be. She has shaped the person I am today.”
The JJ cup wannabe model was first selected to be in the top 25 of the competition, and after an online vote was chosen to be in the top ten.
After a make-over and photoshoot, professional photos of the final ten contenders have now been released so the winner of Star in a Bra 2015 can be chosen in a final public vote.
The champion will join the brand’s curvy line up at their summer shoot, enjoy an all-expenses-paid trip to the Mediterranean for two with £1,000 spending money and also be awarded a year-long modeling contract with Bridge Models Limited.
Miss Adams said: “I'm entering star in a bra because I finally have the confidence and would love to model for Curvy Kate.
“I used to have so many body hang ups, hated my size and wanted to change myself, but as I get older I'm realising it's all about self-love.
“I’m a size 16, I look after myself and I’m happy the way I am, and I just want to show other women that that’s ok.”
The competition has just six days left, and she is encouraging members of the public to help her win.
