Harrow Times readers can help people who make exceptional efforts to help their communities win the recognition they deserve.
To mark the launch of National Volunteers’ Week, nominations are now open for the annual Harrow’s Heroes awards - an opportunity for Harrow people to honour hard-working volunteers for their work.
A total of seven awards will be handed out to winners at a ceremony in October.
This year’s categories include the Young Volunteer Award, Bringing People Together Award, Community Champion Award, Inspiring Volunteer Award, Lifelong Volunteer Award and the Volunteer Team Award.
The judges will also select a person or team from all the nominations received for the overall Judges’ Volunteer Of The Year Award 2015.
Harrow borough councillor Sue Anderson said: “Harrow has an army of unsung heroes who have a passion and commitment to help their community.
“On National Volunteers’ Week, we want to celebrate their work and inspire others to volunteer.
“The launch of Harrow’s Heroes is a chance for us to say a big thank you, and give our volunteers a little bit of recognition for their contribution in making our borough a better place.
“If you know a person or group who has gone above and beyond to help your community, please nominate them for this year’s Harrow’s Heroes.”
Sponsors of the awards include Pertemps, Terry and Stephens Ltd, Harold Benjamin Solicitors, Harrow College, Harrow School, Rotary Club of Edgware and Stanmore, Tesco and the Harrow Times.
Harrow Times editor Tim Jones said: “The Harrow Times is delighted to sponsor Harrow’s Heroes this year and have the chance to recognise some of the outstanding achievements and endeavours of people living in the borough.”
Anyone who wants to give their volunteers recognition on social media can tweet about their accomplishments using the hashtag #shoutoutHarrow.
