A review into the closure of four libraries has been promised by senior politician a week before their doors are locked for the last time.
Harrow East MP Bob Blackman raised the issue of Harrow Council’s plan to close four libraries during a meeting at the House of Commons yesterday.
Speaking to the House, he asked culture, media and sport secretary minister whether he would intervene to ensure the council fulfils its “statutory duties”.
Speaking during the debate yesterday, Mr Vaizey said: “I visited one of the libraries under threat with my honourable friend.
“I know that when he was the leader of Brent Council he fought very hard to keep libraries open. They were subsequently closed by the Labour administration.”
Mr Vaizey added he will review the council’s plans to close its libraries, which are due to be locked up for good on June 13.
