A Bollywood dance company performed for a world-class cricket team ahead of their test series.
K’z Dance Entertainment, an Indian dance company based in Harrow and Brent, performed for the Indian cricket team ahead of India’s five-match test series against England.
The County Cricket Ground in Chelmsford hosted India’s only warm up match with Essex from July 25 to 27.
For the first time the dance company were invited to perform Garba, an Indian folk dance, Bollywood and Bhangra routines during the three-day match receiving praise from cricket commentator and former player, Ravi Shastri, who said their performance was “fantastic”. Their show was part of a grand opening followed by the Indian national anthem
Director and choreographer Kalpesh Zalavadiya described the atmosphere as “electric” adding that the highlight was seeing the Indian cricketers cheering from Pavilion balcony.
Kalpesh said: “We rehearsed a wide range of steps and styles to make our performance great, but we allowed our spontaneity to give it the extra edge.
“All the dancers learnt the choreography and then added layers of detail, emotion and expression to reflect the event.
“The Indian cricket team were on top form throughout the match equalling our efforts to bring a high impact and energetic dance on the field.”
Kalpesh went on to say spectators “marvelled” at the brightly coloured outfits worn by the dancers, adding: “This is a performance we will treasure for a long time.”
India’s vice captain, Ajinkya Rahane, said: “I really enjoyed the performance.”
The dance company received autographs and took selfies with many players including Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shikhar Dhawan and K.L. Rahul.
Kalpesh added: “A very big thanks from Team K’z Dance UK to our sponsors www.anytickets.co.uk and www.11plusteacher.co.uk for giving us this wonderful opportunity.“
