A COUNCILLOR elected to two different councils has confirmed after weeks of speculation he will stand down from his seat in Stanmore Park.
Conservative Councillor Mark Versallion was elected for another seat in the Heath and Reach area of Central Bedfordshire Council, where he lives, earlier this month.
Two weeks ago, he was made portfolio holder of children’s services at the council.
Last week he told the Harrow Times that if prompted by the Conservative association he would stand down from Harrow Council.
He has now confirmed a by-election will be held following the Canons ward by-election this week.
He said: “It’s no big surprise or big secret to people that I am standing down.
"I have spoken with the association and we’ve agreed to a process as to when the by-election will happen.
"We’ve had to discuss when the time is considered right and everyone is willing and able to have it.
“We can’t give a date on it just yet."
Cllr Versallion said the association would be speaking to Harrow Council to organise a date for the by-election.
He said: “We have to have discussions with the council about it, but it is in the midst of a by-election at present so a decision will be made after that.
“I’ve enjoyed my time here and I believe I have served the people well by being conscientious and hard-working.
“I am still working on cases and am very aware of my duties and mindful of my commitments.”
Cllr Versallion has a position as a non-executive director at North-West London Hospitals NHS Trust.
The board oversees Northwick Park St Mark's, and Central Middlesex Hospitals.
He was brought on to the board for his experience as managing director of marketing company VML Ltd, based in Harrow, and for his experience as a councillor since 2002.
He said: “I have given up my day job although I am still operational managing director and still own the majority of the company.
"I have stood down from this so I can concentrate on my roles in public service.”
