TRADERS and residents have described the “mayhem” of a fight where a teenager was stabbed on Friday evening.
Police confirmed ten suspects were arrested following the incident, which happened at around 4.50pm in Harrow Weald High Road, and involved around 15 teenagers.
The victim, 15, an ex-Hatch End High School student, was stabbed in the fight and taken to hospital. Ten boys, aged between 13 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of GBH and have been bailed until mid-September.
Kamran Hussain, manager at Kamran’s Barber Shop, on the High Street, said: “We knew there was a fight with apparently about ten or more boys there and someone got hurt.
“A lot of police were about and the tape was still up when we left for the day. We don’t know what happened to the boy.”
Receptionist at Adams Opticians, in the High Street, Amanda Fake, said: “There were lots of police there all the way around the area and I couldn’t get into Weighton Road, just off the High Street.
“I heard there were about 14 boys running down the road and a boy was stabbed.
“I worry about my daughter and I make sure she is picked up wherever she goes. She’s not allowed to hang around here.
“There are gangs around but you don’t expect anything like this to happen right outside.”
A man, who wished to remain anonymous, witnessed the incident, and said: “There was a lot of mayhem. There were about 15 boys out there running along the road.
“There was a lot of screaming and shouting for a while and then they just disappeared.
“It’s not the sort of thing that happens or should happen around here.”
A woman, who wished to not be named, said: “I had no idea it was a stabbing. You see a lot of groups walking up and down the high street and gathering in the park but you don’t expect this.”
The victim was a former pupil at Hatch End High School. Harrow Council confirmed none of those arrested were pupils from the school.
Headteacher Sue Maguire said: “The school was extremely concerned to hear that one of its popular former students was the victim of an incident in Harrow Weald on Friday evening.
"All at Hatch End wish him a very speedy recovery and send him and his family our thoughts and best wishes.
“The police are investigating the matter and we will do everything we can to help them with their enquiries.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "One male, in his mid-teens, suffered a stab injury and was taken to hospital and is in a serious and stable condition.
"Ten males, between the ages of 13 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of GBH and have been bailed until mid-September.”
