An actress from Kenton has been selected as Miss India UK North London.
Nimisha Mehta, 23, who lives in Loretto Gardens, won the title at a beauty contest in east London on September 28.
The competition included various rounds including fashion, question and answer sessions and a talent competition.
During the event there was a performance by singer Avina Shah who sang the Indian national anthem followed by her single Dil Deewana.
Judges included the current Miss India UK, Deana Uppal, and Omar Khan, Bollywood film actor.
“I enjoyed every minute of it,” said Ms Mehta.
“I have lived in north London pretty much since I was born and it feels great to be able to represent the region.
“My family have been very supportive, they know how hard I work and are really happy about it."
Ms Mehta, who works as a model and actress said that she got involved because she was casual friends with one of the organisers who suggested that she audition as it might be a platform to further her career.
“North London had the most amount of participants, we had 13 girls, the other groups had five,” she added.
“I’m a professional dancer so I did an Indian dance to a very popular Bollywood song called Chikni Chameli to show off my talent.
“I’m a very positive person, I get nervous on the day and start shaking backstage but that’s from excitement.”
Ms Mehta is now through to the national Miss India UK competition which will take place on October 27, in Oxford.
“It would be amazing to win the national competition.
“I don’t think it’s about who is the prettiest. The competition is also about your confidence and how you carry yourself.
“What is the point of beauty with no brains?”
In addition to her title, she also received £500 worth of Yuvna Kim vouchers who designed the dresses worn in the final and £180 worth of jewellery.
