This Saturday, two local bands take to the stage at Harrow’s Trinity Bar. The bedroom hour and The Megadudes have known each other since their school days and are part of a growing network of young bands in the borough that support and encourage each other – and even play for each other. Rosy Moorhead sits down for a chat with Mark Dudley, keyboard player with the bedroom hour, and Chris Rhodes, singer and guitarist of The Megadudes.
Members: Mark Dudley on keyboards, Stuart Drummond on vocals, Rob Payne on guitars, Ryan Pincott on drums, Mattia Milan on bass.
Status: Unsigned but we have our own recording studio and are hoping to release an EP in the new year.
Based: We have our own rehearsal room in Uxbridge that we rent with The Megadudes and a couple of other local bands.
Started: We first started in 2009 and were together for about a year and then took time off for a few of us to get married. We got back together last Christmas.
The sound: We’ve been likened to Doves, Elbow, The Cure, Coldplay and Editors.
The songs: Heart Will Haunt is getting a lot of attention, it’s a bit different, you don’t really hear that sort of thing.
Gigs: A couple of times a month, locally and around the country. We’d like to get a regular slot at Trinity.
Members: Chris Rhodes on vocals and guitar, Kyle Radbone on bass, Adam Gardner on lead guitar and backing vocals, Tom Mitchell on drums.
Status: Signed to indie London label Kittiwake Records, released four singles, just finished recording their debut album.
Based: Hayes and Hillingdon
Started: At the end of 2009.
What’s with the name? Adam emailed me one day saying we should form a band together and jokingly suggested we be called The Megadudes. I wrote back and said yes but on the condition that we were called that. We all thought it was the best name because it was the worst name!
The sound: Pop rock. Our influences are bands like Weezer and Elvis Costello.
The songs: Garlic Dad is about a very odd Japanese computer game I was playing about Chopin fighting a gang boss called Garlic Dad. Mrs Radbone is a thank you letter to our bassist’s mum for producing Kyle. It’s been getting quite a lot of airplay.
