A classic movie is to be screened in Stonebridge using energy generated purely by audience members pedaling on bicycles.

Back to the Future will be shown at The Bridge Park Community Leisure Centre from 5.45pm this evening.

At the event, which is being organised by Brent Borough Council and social enterprise, Electric Pedals, audience members will be taught about the science of generating electricity.

The power for the cinema screen will be generated entirely from their pedaling efforts so if they stop, the film stops.

Councillor James Powney, Brent Council's lead member for environment and neighbourhood Services, said: "I'm delighted we've been able to bring this exciting event to Brent and it shows what a fantastic arts and cultural offer we have for residents.

“The pedal-powered screening is part of our cultural legacy from the London 2012 Olympics and it brings together cinema, sport and sustainability under one roof. It will be a great evening."

Back to the Future, a 1980s Steven Spielberg film, was chosen for the event after an online vote by Brent residents.

The event is free to attend but places are limited so booking is advised.
