Time is running out for people to have their say on Brent Borough Council’s three year plan for supporting children with special educational needs.
The 12 week consultation on the SEN and Disability Strategy for 2012-2016 closes on November 30.
The strategy lays out how the council plans to help children with SEN to reach their full potential at school.
It also outlines an expansion programme to increase the number of SEN places at both mainstream, and specialist, schools.
This has become necessary following a sharp increase in the number of children in Brent with special needs.
So far, only a small number of schools have taken part in the consultation and so the council is urging them to submit their views and ideas.
Mary Arnold, lead member for children and families, said: "Delivering support and education for children and young people with special educational needs is an important area of work for the council.
“It's crucial that we get it right which is why it's so important for us get a wide range of feedback about our plans from as many parents and professionals, particularly schools, as possible."
Ideas that the council is looking for feedback on include introducing a new Parent Reference Group to help guide SEN developments and to ensure parents are consulted and increased partnership working with health professionals and the voluntary sector ahead of the introduction of integrated education, health and care plans in 2014.
