Harrow’s resident nappy guru is holding a free Nappy Natters event to promote the use of washable nappies.
Helen Lea will be running the information workshop at 11am on November 21 at St Joseph’s Children’s Centre in Dobbin Close.
Ms Lea is hoping to persuade parents to ditch disposable nappies in favour of washable ones.
She said: “Washable nappies today are cute and stylish and no longer a big piece of white cloth held up with safety pins.
“Modern washable nappies are brightly coloured, funky and convenient; they use velcro to hold them up and are elasticated, just like disposable nappies.”
Everyone is welcome to attend the workshop and all mums will be offered a free trial pack.
Harrow Borough Council portfolio holder for environment and community safety, Phillip O’Dell, said: “Using washable nappies is another example of how residents can reduce their waste by reusing.
“Disposable nappies make up 50 per cent of all waste produced by a family with a child under one and in Harrow 8.13 per cent of the rubbish collected is made up of disposable nappies with all of them land filled.
“Choosing to use washable nappies is a really positive and environmentally responsible action that families can choose to make and will also help them to save money.”
