An 11-year-old schoolgirl is celebrating after winning a Harrow-wide design competition.
Ariane Regan, a pupil at Cannon Lane Junior School, won this year’s Design A Road Safety Banner competition.
The competition, which is run by Recognition Express Harrow, a school uniform supplier, received hundreds of entries from four to 11-year-olds.
Ariane will now be presented with a banner displaying her design, to be hung up in her school during Road Safety Week, which starts on Monday.
There will be a ceremony at Cannon Lane Junior School on Monday during which Ariane will also be given a Star Award.
The school will receive 300 high visibility drawstring bags.
Richard Johnson, headteacher at Cannon Lane Junior School, said: “Road safety is an important issue for our school and we’re grateful to Recognition Express for this competition, which has provided a fun way of engaging the children about the subject.
“They have made a huge effort and we think their designs communicate very well the importance of staying safe near roads.”
This is the fourth year running that Beverley Fisher, director of Recognition Express Harrow, has joined forces with Brake, the national road safety charity, and invited local pupils to design a road safety banner to display at their school.
Beverley said: “This competition is one of the highlights of our year and we really look forward to receiving the children’s designs.
“The results are always fantastic and we are sure that Ariane’s banner will help to remind passing traffic to slow down.”
