A mother was injured trying to tackle a blaze in her house last night.

Firefighters were called to Norwood Avenue, Wembley, at 9pm following reports of a fire.

It is believed that the woman took her child out of the burning building before returning to try and tackle the blaze herself.

Part of the ground floor of the building was damaged and the woman was treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics.

The child was unharmed.

Pushminder Vagarwal, station manager at Wembley fire station, said: “People should never try and fight a fire themselves.

“Fires can be unpredictable and very dangerous, so our advice is always get out, stay out, and call the brigade.

“Many people every year are seriously injured or even killed because they ignore that advice and go back into a burning building.”

Two fire engines from Wembley fire station were at the scene with around 10 firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
