A group of 55 students from Kingsbury received a special visit from an Olympic bronze medalist on Tuesday.

The Kingsbury High School students were visited by England hockey star Chloe Rogers.

Ms Rogers taught a hockey workshop to the Year 7, 8 and 10s during which she offered tips and advice on how the students could improve their game.

She also answered the students’ questions on everything from life in the Olympic village, to the good luck rituals of athletes.

Yarlini Thiruchelvam, 14, said: "I found the workshop really enjoyable.

“Meeting Chloe was a great experience - she gave us advice on how to improve our skills and on controlling nerves before a game.

“Overall, the workshop was definitely inspiring, and meeting Chloe was a great opportunity."

The visit was organised as part of the NHS Brent 2012 Legacy Programme.

Kingsbury High School was the first school in Brent to benefit from the  Legacy Programme which was launched in September and which aims to inspire a new generation of young athletes.

Ms Rogers said: "It was a real pleasure to meet some of the students at Kingsbury High School and get to view their hockey skills.

“Hopefully the summer Olympics in London has inspired some of them to try out and participate in new sports or to keep progressing in their activities and strive to achieve new levels.

“They all looked to be having fun and enjoying themselves whilst playing hockey and that is one of the key reasons for playing sport also keeping them fit and healthy at the same time.

“It’s great to come to a school that offers hockey at such a young age. The teachers have been coaching them really well.”
