Wembley's new Tokyngton Youth Club was officially opened on Saturday.
Tokyngton Safer Neighbourhoods Team has been working with Brent Borough Council Ward Working team, local youths and businesses to find a way to keep young people off the streets following last summer’s riots.
They formed the Tokyngton Youth Panel which aimed to provide young people with a sense of belonging and a way to liaise with the police and council.
The young people expressed an interested in having a recreational centre so the group decided to set up a youth club.
A venue was found at Planet Zero in Wembley Retail Park, Engineers Way, and Brent Park IKEA provided furniture.
More than 200 people attended the youth club’s official opening including Olympic gold medallist, James Degale, and 2012 Commonwealth bronze medallist, Lee Shinkin.
PCSO Samuel Lamptey, from Tokyngton Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: “The launch of the Tokyngton Youth Club proves the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team is in the position of collaborating well with Brent Council, ward working, ward councillors, residents and local businesses to achieve great goals such as this event if we all pull together.”
Councillor Krupa Sheth said: “The launch of Tokyngton Youth Club was a great success.
“Despite the gloomy weather we had a packed room with happy faces and great entertainment on Saturday evening.
“There were wonderful performances from our talented youth in Brent and very motivational speeches from Great Britain Judo athlete, Lee Shinkin, and Mastermind champion, Shawn Wallace - Mastermind.”
