A 21-year-old from Hatch End is hoping to raise £800 selling cakes and doing chores - so she can do some really worthwhile work in India.
Olivia Bridget Burke, who currently works in Boots, is raising the money for Voluntary Service Overseas India.
She is taking part in the International Citizen Service, a government funded programme which allows 18 to 25-year-olds to contribute to long-term development projects in the developing world.
As part of the project she has to raise £800 for VSO India before travelling to Delhi to volunteer for 12 weeks.
As well as raising money by holding cake sales and doing chores for friends and family, she is now planning a car boot sale.
In January she will travel to Delhi where she will live with a host family while volunteering with disadvantaged groups.
Miss Burke said: “My fundraising is a way of making sure developing countries can continue to benefit from the work of future volunteers, so it’s vital I reach my target.
“I’ve been working hard, doing chores, babysitting, baking and many other things in return for donations and hope I can continue the good work."
The project she is working on is run by development charity VSO and aims to help with poverty, gender inequality and poor healthcare amongst other things.
She added: “This is a unique opportunity to work alongside people from a different culture who have requested help from young volunteers to fight poverty and make a difference where it’s needed most.
“I’m really excited to get out there.”
