Harrow is the tenth greenest borough in London, according to recent statistics - but it has nothing to do with parks or people's gardens.
A total of 265 Harrow households provide electricity to the National Grid using solar panels that mean they can sell excess power back to the nation.
Even so, the numbers are quite small. According to research carried out by Green Tomato Energy, this means 0.3 per cent of 85,563 homes in the borough have chosen to use solar panels and take advantage of the Government’s Feed-in Tariff.
Waltham Forest has the highest percentage of domestic properties signed up, 701 homes, and at the bottom of the table is Westminster with just 32.
Properties with solar photovoltaic systems can use power straight away with any excess being linked back into the power grid to be used later, or sold to the national grid or energy companies using the Feed-in Tariffs.
The total number of London homes providing electricity to the National Grid is 8,354.
