Drivers are being warned to avoid Headstone Drive, in Harrow, while gas works are being completed.
National Grid engineers are working in Headstone Drive, between Princes Drive and Cecil Road.
They are also working in Cecil Road and Tudor Road between Athelstone Road and Headstone Drive.
As a result, Headstone Drive is closed under the railway bridge and there are temporary traffic lights at the junction of Cecil Road and Ellen Webb Drive.
Buses H9 and H10 are being diverted.
The work is due to be completed and the restrictions lifted by Tuesday December 18.
Project engineer Neil Jackson said: “The metallic gas mains in the area are getting old so we’re replacing them with tough new plastic pipes which will help make sure local people keep on having safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.”
He added: “We’re doing all we can to complete the work as soon as possible and with minimal disruption.”
