Harrow Borough Council has defended its proposed strategy for tackling climate change by saying that it will not cost anything to implement.
On Monday the council announced that it was holding a consultation on the strategy which lays out how it aims to support low carbon forms of transport, to ensure that flood risks are minimised and to ensure that council buildings and homes are energy efficient.
The announcement provoked concerns from some residents that the council was spending money on this while cutting what they see as vital services.
However, today the council has stated that implementing the strategy will not cost anything.
In fact, it claims that it could actually save money by making buildings more energy efficient.
The council is giving people until January 28 to give their views on the strategy.
Councillor Phillip O’Dell, Harrow Council’s portfolio holder for environment and community safety, said: “I would encourage all of our residents to submit their views on our proposals.
“The council is committed to keeping our borough clean, green and safe.
“However the success of our plans depends on the whole community taking the threat of climate change seriously and, together, making the changes that are necessary.”
