Plans to build new football pitches at a Harrow school will "definitely" go ahead, according to its management.

Last year Kingsbury High School, in Princes Avenue, announced plans to enter a deal with Goals Soccer Centres to build eight Astroturf football pitches on their site, as well as a bar area that will be open until 11pm.

Homeowners living near the school in Roe Green, which is a conservation area, said the new pitches would “wreck” their peaceful lifestyle.

Glen Pearson, the school's director of finance and business, said: “The reason people haven’t heard much is because we have not got anything to say.

“There have to be a lot of surveys for research on how it is going to affect traffic, local wildlife, the environment and so on.

“All this takes time but at this point it is definitely going ahead.”

Residents have expressed concerns about parking and the bar attracting “rowdy” behaviour.

Mr Pearson said the school is taking these concerns into account and adjustments to the plans have been made but they still wish to proceed with the bar.

He said: “We are talking about a soccer club not a night club. We are not expecting people to be drunk.”

As part of the proposal, the school will be putting in an application to build 83 parking spaces which it hopes will solve any parking issue.

Mr Pearson explained that students have been unable to use the outdoor pitches since November because they have been flooded and added: “These pitches mean a great deal to the school because it means getting kids out in the fresh air.

“We are hoping to complete the planning application by April or May and in theory the pitches could be open six months later.”
