The minister for disabled people has pledged her support for Harrow’s Deaf Awareness Day.
Conservative MP for Wirral West Esther McVey said the day, in which people with impaired hearing can meet those who provide services, is an important way of raising awareness and removing barriers.
The event, which is being organised by Harrow Asian Deaf Club (HADC), will take place in the Civic Centre in Station Road on May 13.
Ms McVey said: "I fully support initiatives like this aimed at improving understanding of the needs of deaf people, giving them greater input in to how they access services, and how the barriers they face can be removed or overcome."
The event will give service providers, council staff and deaf people the chance to have their say in the running of services.
During the day there will also be a question and answer session which will give deaf people the chance to ask questions about the accessibility of council services, leisure facilities, cinemas and theatres.
