Harrow Borough Council’s new cabinet was confirmed this evening - despite a Labour attempt to remove the authority's leader.
The new cabinet, made up of six members of the new Independent Labour group, was appointed with the backing of the Conservative group.
Labour councillor Sachin Shah tabled a motion to remove Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar as leader of the council.
The motion was defeated in a roll call vote by the Independent Labour group with support of the Conservative group.
The appointment of the new cabinet comes following a split in the previous ruling Labour party two weeks ago.
Council leader Cllr Idaikkadar had been voted out as leader of the Labour group in April but responded by forming the new nine-strong group before the formal appointment of a new council leader.
He announced his cabinet, which also includes two members of the Conservative party in non-voting roles, last week.
This evening it was also confirmed the previous Mayor of Harrow councillor Nizam Ismail would be in the cabinet and is portfolio holder for community, cultural services and housing.
