A college has been given a prestigious award for its work to make its campuses environmentally sustainable.
Harrow College was given the prize at the Green Gown Awards 2013, in the best newcomer category for its project ‘Sustainability on a Shoestring’.
The project saw the college invested in new recycling bins, fitted percussion taps to reduce water wastage, increased the biodiversity on-site and installed solar panels.
Judith Abbott from Harrow said: “The awards are the gold standard within the education sector, so I am absolutely delighted that the work done for our Sustainability on a Shoestring programme was recognised by the judges as being of a very high standard.
“The college is committed to sustainability as one of its strategic objectives, so this award is fantastic recognition for the all staff and students who have worked hard on so many different contributing initiatives and projects.”
The awards recognise the work of universities and colleges across the UK for the sustainable initiatives they implement.
