Pupils helped Transport for London staff celebrate an underground station’s 100th birthday today.
Children from Heathland School and Vaughn School were joined by the Mayor of Harrow Nana Asante at West Harrow Station for the 100th anniversary of its opening.
The schools were given the task to write poems, create art and bunting for the milestone which were all on display in the station.
Paul Madigan, station manager said: “We really wanted to get schools from the community involved with the station and help us celebrate the anniversary.
“All the children have done a fantastic job and we’re delighted with all the work they have done.”
Alex Young, Year 5 teacher from Vaughn School said: "All the children were really excited by the competition and they have really enjoyed it.
“It’s been great for them to learn about their local area and its history. They really engaged with it and found it really interesting.”
Tim Smith, head of art at Heathland School said: "It’s been a fantastic competition for all the pupils and has given them a chance to learn about their area."
Mayor Nana Asante joined the pupils for a tour of the station and looked at the exhibition of the station’s history before giving prizes to children from both schools.
She said: “I think this is a fantastic competition because it is really important for children to learn about the history of their community.”
