More than 30 police officers broke down doors of suspected drug dealers and closed down a brothel as part of a day of action.

Harrow police, with officers from the London Fire Brigade and Harrow Borough Council hit the streets in force yesterday around Northolt Road.

The day started with morning raids at two addresses of suspected South Harrow drug dealers.

Officers smashed down doors and piled into the properties, uncovering ten bags of a cannabis-like substance in one flat and arresting one man.

Throughout the day fire officers carried out more than 30 spot checks of flats above shops and a dozen inspections at shops and businesses.

In the afternoon a police sniffer dog unit stopped and searched people leaving South Harrow Underground station, arresting arrested three men.

Harrow Council environmental officers were also out in Northolt Road performing a blitz clean of areas and phone boxes.

Harrow Police say the day of action is just the first of many as part of a campaign launched by borough police commander Chief Supt Simon Ovens to make Harrow the safest borough in London.

Chief Supt Ovens said: "This day of action sends out a clear message to the people of Harrow that we are committed to making this the safest borough in London.

"We would not be able to carry out this operation without the help of partner organisations.

"This should also be a clear message to criminals that we will take robust action based on intelligence to make this borough as safe as possible."
