Plans for a major development on the site of a former daycare centre will be submitted next month.
Developers of Anmer Lodge, in Stanmore, met members of the community and councillors to update them on their plans for the site last week.
Proposals include more than 100 homes and a new Marks & Spencer supermarket, with final plans to be submitted to Harrow Borough Council in December.
The development of the site in Coverdale Close was announced earlier this year following a deal between Harrow Council, Notting Hill Housing and Marks & Spencer.
Chairman of Stanmore Chamber of Trade Raj Degamia said: “We know the development is coming and I’m not against it and I think Marks and Spencer as a brand will be good for Stanmore.
“There are concerns about a drop in footfall on the high street but that is to be expected.
"The concern for me is that there doesn’t seem to be plans to assist the high street when the store goes in there."
During the past few months there have been a number of consultation events with people in the area. Last week developers gave a pre-application presentation of the plans so far.
Roger Arkell, senior planning manager at Notting Hill Housing, said: “We have been greatly encouraged by our engagement to date and responses received from local residents have helped in shaping the development plans.
“We will continue to consult with residents and stakeholders as we get closer to submitting our final proposals for the site.”
Chairman of the Stanmore Society John Williams said: “The developers have gone out of their way to talk to the community and we do appreciate that.
“We accept something needs to be done with the site and that this development is coming.
“We do have some concerns about the scale of the buildings and the effect on traffic and we look forward to seeing the final plans when they are unveiled.”
Developers say they have conducted a comprehensive traffic assessment in order to reduce the impact of the development in Stanmore.
Plans for the site are currently being drawn up and are due to be submitted to the council before Christmas.
