A new charter enshrining the support foster carers can expect to receive has been launched.
The foster carers charter was launched by Harrow Borough Council in partnership with carers from across the area yesterday.
The document sets out the support the council will give to carers who are looking after some of the borough’s most vulnerable children.
It also highlights what the council expects from foster carers which officers say are all in the interest of the children in care.
Ann Birchley chairman of the Harrow Foster Carers Association said: “We have always had a brilliant working relationship with Harrow council and with this on paper it means we are all on the same page.
“It’s good to have something in writing so we know what the council is required to do and what the council expects from us.
“It is a really positive step forward and will be for the benefit for all the children in care.”
Melissa Caslake, divisional director for children services said: “It is important to thank all the foster carers of Harrow for their hard work and the support they give vulnerable children.
“The charter is an important document because it is part of the greater recognition of the increased professionalism of foster carers and the work they do.”
The areas where the council will provide support include providing information to carers, education and training.
