Music lessons, teachers' karaoke and a sponsored silence are just some of the fundraising ideas at one school preparing for the MasterMind in Harrow competition.

Pupils from North London Collegiate School, in Canons Drive, Edgware, are raising the money for Mind in Harrow to enter the MasterMind competition, run partnership with the Harrow Times.

The three teams of four Year 9 pupils have to raise £400 for the charity, by any means they like, to enter the contest.

Teacher Lucy Atkinson, who is co-ordinating the MasterMind teams said: “I think this is a great competition for all the girls taking part and gives them the opportunity to get creative with how they raise the money.

“It is a big target for all of them by they are all excited about getting to the competition.

“The pupils taking part have already learnt a lot about mental health from working with Mind in Harrow and hopefully they will be able to raise awareness with the others in the school.”

The school’s Team Awesome has already raised £150 for a planned sponsored silence and are also organising sponsored swim and cake sale.

Team Brilliant have been a bit more business-minded and are giving music lessons to children in piano, violin and theory as well as holding a school concert.

Finally, Team Fantastic plan to sell Christmas cards they have designed themselves and are planning to hold a teachers karaoke event to raise their £400 entry fee.

The other schools taking part in the contest are Hatch End High School, Bentley Wood High School, Harrow School, Sacred Heart and John Lyon School.

Each school will enter three teams of four Year 9 pupils to face the quick fire ‘University Challenge’ style quiz next year.
