A decision on whether a set of playing fields will be designated a town green will be made this evening.
Harrow Borough Council’s licensing panel is to discuss the application to make Whitchurch playing fields, in Wemborough Road, Stanmore an official green.
Last year, under the Labour administration, the council gave its backing to plans from the Whitchurch Consortium to build a new sports complex and leisure facility on the site.
However the plans have met with strong opposition from people living near the site, with one neighbour submitting the application to create a green, which if successful would prevent the development.
In documents on the Harrow Council website, officers have recommended members refuse the application.
This evening's meeting will take place at 6.30pm at the Civic Centre in Station Road.
