Neighbours of a tennis club that is up for sale say they want to work with the owners to bring it back into community use.
The site of North Harrow Tennis Club, in Cumberland Road, was recently put on the market by its trustees.
People living around the club, which includes three courts, say they have not been used for several years.
But since finding out about the sale, people living in the surrounding streets of Gloucester Road, Cumberland Road and Westmorland Road have launched a campaign to save the club.
Jasbir Lally, who started a petition, said: “I think a lot of people are worried the site will be sold for some sort of housing development which would cause problems.
“We already have a parking issue around here and it could make things worse.
"What a lot of people want is to have the club open and used by the community again.
“Our petition isn’t against the trustees of the club. We really want to work with them so we can save it.
“It’s a community asset and it would be great to see it used by residents in the area again.”
Hitesh Bhogaita, who lives in Cumberland Road, said: “We are all very concerned about what might happen to the site if it was sold.
“We don’t want to have houses or flats in our back garden. Personally I would like to see it being used as a tennis club again.”
So far, more than 100 people have signed the online petition to save the club, with many calling for it to remain as a sports facility.
No guide price has been set by the estate agents and the club does not have vehicle access, which could mean any prospective buyer may have to purchase a bordering house to make room.
