I am writing in response to last week’s letter by Barry Jackson (‘When will I see you again?”, Your Views, May 8).

I am also standing as an independent candidate alongside James Bond in Headstone North, and looking at the addresses of the other candidates on the list, only four of the 12 candidates actually live in Headstone North — James and I make up two of the four!

I agree with Mr Jackson. How can someone who doesn’t live in an area represent people who do?

I’ve heard them say: ‘Well it’s only a few miles down the road’ but if they don’t go to our shops, use our bins or send their children to our schools, how can they really understand our day-to-day needs or truly ‘share our concerns’?

As Mr Jackson has pointed out, we don’t see them from election to election, because the majority of our representatives across Harrow are happily enjoying their lives elsewhere in the borough.
