Schoolchildren did their bit to raise money towards the expansion of a museum celebrating the life of an eccentric illustrator.
The Sai School of Harrow has purchased two bricks for £50 to help towards the building of the Heath Robinson Museum at West House in Pinner.
In lessons over the past two weeks, pupils of the weekend school have been learning about the life and work of illustrator William Heath Robinson, best known for his pictures of ingeneous and unlikely machines.
Founder of the school Ranu Mehta- Radia said: "The Sai School is delighted to support the West House project.
“We are especially excited to discover that all those years ago, Heath Robinson, who lived in the Borough of Harrow, illustrated the Ramayana.
“This gives us a close connection with West House and the new museum, and we hope to work closely with the museum project in the future."
The museum project has raised more than £1million with Heritage Lottery Funding, but still needs to £140,000 for the construction phase.
People are able to buy bricks of the museum to pledge money towards the new structure in Memorial Park, and will tell the story of Heath Robinson’s life, with a gallery and activity room for schools and children.
It will also include two galleries at the museum, one with a permanent display of Heath Robinson’s work and another which will house four temporary exhibitions a year.
