The Mayor of Harrow hosted an afternoon tea to celebrate the 60th birthday of the borough with former school pupils.
The 17 people were school children at the time when the Queen gave borough status on Harrow, the first to be chartered on the post war era in 1954.
On the day each paid a penny to receive a special Harrow medallion to mark the historic occasion and today joined Mayor Nana Asante for afternoon tea.
Today in the Mayoral Parlour at Harrow Civic Centre the group heard about the history of the borough and enjoyed a quiz on Harrow.
The Mayor said: “This tea party is about all of us celebrating our past and the history of Harrow.
“It is important we look back at where we have been and learn about a key part in the borough’s past.
“It has really been a pleasure to have these former school pupils here and I have learnt a lot about Harrow.
“By spending a penny at school in 1954, they are part of Harrow’s history and it’s nice celebrate with them.”
Jacqui Kielty, who was nine at the time of the borough’s inception, said: “It’s been a lovely event and I’ve learnt a lot about Harrow.
“I’ve lived here nearly all my life and it’s been interesting to hear about the history of the area.”
