An air cadet has won 12 hours of flying tuition thanks to the RAF Association after a gruelling interview process.

Cadet Sergeant Jordy-Xavier Black, from 1454 (Harrow) Squadron Air Training Corps, was awarded the hours by the RAF charity, which runs the flying scholarship programme for a select few cadets from across the country.

After a tough interview process he was finally awarded his prize by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Andrew Pulford, at the RAF Association’s annual conference last week.

Mr Black said: “This scholarship brings me one step closer to a career in the RAF as a pilot. I started ATC in 2010 and that has really helped me decide what I want to do. I look forward to flying later this year.”

Alexandra Black, Jordy’s mother said: “We couldn’t believe it when Jordy told us he’d won a flying scholarship. It was a bit of a shock, as there were so many candidates – we are just so proud of him.

“We was under a lot of pressure when he was preparing for his interview, as he was doing a Qualified Aerospace Instructors course at the same time."
