A church celebrated a “momentous day” as an archbishop visited to dedicate the church and altar.
St John Fisher, in North Harrow, welcomed Cardinal Vincent Nicholas, the Archbishop of Westminster, to its redidcation.
The church was shut ten months ago after the sanctuary began to leak but was officially reopened last Sunday.
Above the altar, suspended from an arch hangs a byzantine cross painted by iconographer Petra Clare. In his homily, Cardinal Vincent Nichols spoke of the five crosses carved into the altar, and said: “These remind us of the five wounds of Christ into which the oil of Chrism will be poured."
