A competition that recognises the work of volunteers was officially launched in Harrow this afternoon.
Nominations for the annual Harrow’s Heroes awards - an opportunity for Harrow people to recognise hard-working volunteers with their own awards ceremony – opened on Monday, but today saw Harrow Council and a number of charities mark the launch of this year’s competition.
Mayor Councillor Krishna Suresh spoke to charity workers and shoppers in Harrow town centre this afternoon, giving a speech to encourage people to donate anyone they think has donated their time and effort as a volunteer.
He said: “I am very proud to be here today to mark the launch of Harrow’s Heroes this year.
“Volunteers are a very important part of our community and it is important they get the recognition they deserve for their fantastic work.”
