Cookery students showed off their culinary capabilities in their school’s annual Masterchef-style challenge.
In a competition Gregg Wallace and John Torade would have been proud of, pupils chopped, stirred and spiced their way through to the final of the final of the Canons High School annual Masterchef competition.
Pupils had competed through six rounds of cook-offs and taste tests, ranging from omelettes and salads in the first rounds to a signature dish.
The foodies then had to tackle a quiz featuring a surprise chocolate round, along with rounds on food general knowledge and meat.
Established by biology teacher Mr Silver, the competition aims to help pupils understand where their food comes from.
He said: “I like cooking and am passionate about food.
“We grow our own food here at the school and take it into food technology, with a grow it, pick it, eat type of philosophy.
“It’s just about giving the students an idea of where food comes from, what is healthy and how to cook it.”
Overseen by Mr Silver and food technology leader Sadhbh Commins, the four remaining contestants – or students - each prepared two courses, included a main course, for the taste testing.
After much deliberation, student Shania Malik took home the title for the second year running after also winning the cook-off in 2014.
Mr Silver added: “It was a very close run thing, but Shania just beat Neuza to take the prize again.
“The kids had a great time and they all won some good prizes for their efforts.”
Classmates Neuza De Paula, Douglas Kimotho and Amir Penkar came in as runners up, with all chefs receiving a monogramed apron, a cookery book and the opportunity to attend a taster cooking course at the University of West London.
