BUDDING artists at the Pinner Sketch Club are preparing for their annual summer exhibition, which will start on Saturday at St John's Parish Church Hall, in Sheepcote Road, Harrow.
Over the past year, members of the club have been developing their individual pieces while also honing their skills in a number of lectures, reviews of their work by invited guest artists and outdoor group sessions in private gardens at the invitation of the owners.
More than two hundred pieces will be displayed that will a huge assortment of subject matter paintings, drawings and piece of sculpture. Some of the art includes Patrick McAuliffe's unusual study of a Norwegian busker, Brian Collin's seascapes and the metal sculpture of Eva Cowan, which was inspired by botanic, animal and human forms.
During the exhibition, all the art work will be for sale and entry to the church hall is free.
The original art society was established in 1942 by Joseph Parker Robinson, who was a civil defence officer at the time, along with several of his colleagues. It was initially called the Pinner North Civil Defence Sketch Club but following a considerable expansion before the end of the war, the name was changed to the Pinner Sketch Club.
The club was created to provide a friendly and stimulating atmosphere for both professional and amateur artists to pursue their work and now boasts a membership of more than 120 from Pinner, Harrow and further afield, who enjoy an interesting program of events throughout the year that allows them the freedom to either work by themselves at home or elsewhere and with other groups.
A distinguished professional artist is invited to the exhibitions each year to award special commendations to six pieces of paintings and sculptures and also choose one other work for the Kenneth Grimmett Award, as the best in the exhibition.
Visitors are also able to vote for a piece which most appeals to them, which will earn one artist the distinction of winning Visitors Choice.
