A school became a giant art gallery last week, as work by the pupils went on display while they continued creating more.
Whitefriars School took part in the Take One Picture Project, hosted by the National Gallery, this year’s picture was based on Rubens's A Roman Triumph. The challenge is for schools to use the image imaginatively in the classroom, both as a stimulus for artwork, and for work in more unexpected curriculum areas.
There were also visits by a range of artists including Popbang with Ian Cook who uses remote control cars to create large scale pieces of artworks, Samesky, a Brighton based group, who produce large willow sculptures, and Tim Davies who is renowned for withy and paper sculptures.
Throughout the week pupils had the opportunity to explore their artwork further and develop various artistic skills such as graffiti art and as a Rights Respecting School, we created a mural demonstrating the ethos and values of our school.
The creations which will become part of the fabric of the school’s facilities in their new building.
