Members of the Harrow’s Choral Society will welcome a guest reader to its Christmas concert to help raise money for a local charity.

Actor James Fox is this year’s reader and has chosen for all proceeds to go to the Kenton branch of St Luke’s Hospice in Kenton Road.

Harrow School’s Speech room in High Street, Harrow, will host the event on Saturday December 17.

This year is a special one for the society, as it also marks 25 years with Simon Williams as its Director of Music.

Mr Williams has commissioned a number of pieces from contemporary composers and in 1997, he launched the training choir “Singing for Starters”.

Choir member Lesley Smith paid tribute to Mr Williams’ work with the choir.

She said: "Simon has an instinctive understanding of the needs of amateur singers and knows exactly how to help us achieve our best.

"He makes rehearsals fun and stimulating and is a calm and reassuring presence during performances.

"Simon manages to give confidence to inexperienced singers while challenging established choir members to reach ever higher standards."

Tickets are £18 for adults and admission is free for under 16-year-olds.
