An artist is promising “pure vibes” to visitors of her exhibited work at this year’s Harrow Open Studios.

Sandhya Singh, who grew up in India, was inspired by musical rhythms and developed an artistic style of her own which is instantly recognisable named ‘Rhythmism’. It seeks to identify rhythmic strokes through paint, with which she brings her concepts to life.

Her concepts on canvas are being exhibited at Studio Number Four above Café Café, in the High Street in Harrow-on-the-Hill. The works range from a wide variety of subjects in delightful mixture of abstract and figurative representation, music and dance, life and social harmony, environment and development, poetry and prose.

“To me, the structure of music is essentially, circular and cyclic,” says Sandhya. “It starts with a central point – the soul, expands outwards, comes back and moves away again – slightly differently this time.

“And the motion goes on – ultimately merging into the vast temporal expense. And all this while the musical motion is characterised by its rhythm and harmony.”

She is deeply inspired by the likes of MF Hussain, Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh, besides classical Indian music maestros like Pt Ravi Shankar and Ustaad Bismillah Khan.

She sees her works as embodying Indian culture - relying on and drawing inspiration from traditional Indian thought. To her, the paintings are nothing but poetry - in an alternate medium.

Sandhya says of the exhibition: “Here you can feel the pure vibes as you see music playing, nature dancing in rhythm and evidence of the harmony between all entities. You can also experience the vastness of the universe. All depicted on canvas.

Over the years of experimenting with her own independent art movement, Sandhya mounted over sixty exhibitions all over the world including India, UK, US,UEA, Egypt, Sri Lanka and more.

She represented India at art and culture events across the globe, including in Egypt, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mynamar and UK, and she was the Indian representative in the Women & Art Biennial- Sharjah 2014, at the Sharjah Art Museum in United Arab Emirates.

She adds: “As my journey of Rhythisms on canvas continues, I hope to use my art to spread joy, harmony, positivity and peace for humanity in general, much like music, that inspires it.”
