Five Harrow-based athletes have been added to a programme which supports up-and-coming athletes in realising their full potential.

The Everyone Active Sporting Champions scheme, which provides facilities and funds to some of the UK’s most promising sports stars, is now in its second year.

Nathan Fox, 26, considered one of Britain’s leading triple jump prospects, will be supported by the scheme’s silver level of sponsorship.

Sprinter Dominique Olaniyi, distance runner Sami Barakate and squash players Hasnaat and Zan Farooqi have been awarded with the bronze level of support, which provides free access to Everyone Active’s facilities across the country.

The programme’s ambassador, Olympic silver medallist and former 110m hurdles world record holder Colin Jackson, will provide specialist mentoring to the athletes.

He said: “I’m proud to once again be involved with a scheme which is so dedicated to supporting athletic talent from grassroots up.

“It’s important that we drive sporting excellence in our country and the Everyone Active Sporting Champions scheme is already supporting hundreds of our young prospects to achieve their sporting dreams.”

In its first year, it invested more than £100,000 into helping more than 130 athletes to achieve success.

It has pledged to invest a further £1,000,000 into the scheme over the next three years, with the aim of having 500 athletes signed up by the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
