A senior Harrow councillor said a stabbing incident which left a man dead and two others injured “should not be happening” in the borough.

Cllr Krishna Suresh, who is responsible for crime and community cohesion at Harrow Council, said he was “shocked” to hear of a triple stabbing in St Ann’s Road, Harrow, on Sunday (December 13).

He was quick to pass on his condolences to the victims and said he could not add much more since the investigation is ongoing.

Police officers and the London Ambulance Service were called to the street at around 7.15pm and found a 23-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two further men, aged 17 and 19, were also stabbed. They were taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Met has confirmed it has launched a murder investigation.

Detective Inspector Claire Hine, from the Specialist Crime Command, said: “This is another tragic incident in which a young man has lost his life.

“We are working tirelessly to establish the circumstances of what happened and find those responsible; and I would appeal for any witnesses to come forward with information they believe may assist the investigation.”

Cllr Suresh repeated that the council, along with the voluntary and community sector, would work with local police to tackle crime in the borough.

“These sort of things should not be happening in Harrow – we had seen a decrease in knife crime,” he said.

“It was shocking to hear, particularly during a pandemic, when officers are working even harder.”

He added overall crime levels in Harrow remain low, noting it has the second-lowest crime rate in London after Richmond.
