As lockdown restrictions began to slowly ease, ‘Black Lives Matter’ became the topic of conversation in June after the death of George Floyd in the US and hundreds of years of police brutality and racism.
In Harrow town centre, the iconic Katie statue was boarded up as part of a national precaution before a Black Lives Matter protest.
The move came after the Edward Colston statue that was thrown into Bristol Harbour on June 6 started demands to remove similar statues around the UK.
But the Skipping Katie statue, set up in 1987, had no connection with racial tensions, injustice or slave trading – and likely would not have been targeted even if it had not been boarded up.
Two sisters were found dead in Fryent Country Park after a birthday picnic in June. The sisters, from Harrow and Brent, met with a group of people at the park at the evening, and by midnight only sisters Nicole Smallman and Bibaa Henry remained.
They were reported missing the next day and were discovered in the park the following day.
Danyal Hussein, 18, was charged with double murder and possessing an offensive weapon.
