A man has been charged in connection with a burglary which involved an elderly woman being threatened at knifepoint.

Police were called to reports of an aggravated burglary in Pinner at around 7.30am on Christmas Day.

The Met says an elderly woman had a knife pointed at her after a man broke in through patio doors.

The woman was not physically hurt but the burglar made off with a quantity of cash, the Met said.

As police immediately responded to the burglary, the Met received another call at 7.55am from a witness who had seen a man running from a burglary at another address in Pinner, while at 8.05am, officers were notified of an attempted break-in at a nearby address.

The Met quickly linked all three incidents and officers identified an address of interest in Pinner Hill Road.

Just one hour after the woman was threatened at knifepoint, police raided the premises in Pinner Hill Road and arrested a suspect.

A knife and rucksack was also seized from the address.

Acting Chief Inspector Jason Stewart of the Met's North West BCU said: "The response to these incidents in Pinner was rapid and diligent. Using their skills and local knowledge, officers were able to arrest a man very soon after the burglaries.

"I’d like to thank our Response Team officers and CID detectives for some excellent joint working.

"There were over 6,000 calls to the Met and other operational taskings recorded on Christmas Day, all of which will have been assessed and acted upon."

Tony Corby, 32, of Greenway, Pinner, has been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and one count of attempted aggravated burglary. He appeared at Willesden Magistrates' Court on December 26, He has been remanded in custody to appear at a crown court on a date to be confirmed.
