Funding amassed through new developments in Brent will be used to support plans for a £10 million main access road at Northwick Park Hospital.
Brent Council’s cabinet agreed to allocate Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) money to the project, though it is anticipated this will be reclaimed through a government grant.
This road part of the wider redevelopment at the site, which is being managed by the council, the London Northwest NHS Health Authority, the University of Westminster, and Network Homes.
It covers an area previously owned by NHS and was acquired as a One Public Estate project, a government programme which encourages the sale of public land.
Cllr Shama Tatler, who is responsible for regeneration, property, and planning at Brent Council, described the spine road as “hugely important” in “allowing the development to go forward”.
The council expects the scheme to cost £10 million – if it surpasses this, the first £1 million would be split between the other partners, with Brent picking up the next £500,000 if necessary.
A cabinet report noted the use of CIL will provide cashflow for the project and will act as a safety net if the funding from the Housing Infrastructure Fund is delayed or falls through.
It added this approach will ensure the “timely progression” of the design, procurement, and delivery of the project.
