A bollard put up in the middle of the pavement after drivers mounted the kerb to get round ‘Streetspace’ road blocks has itself been judged a safety hazard.
Brent Council confirmed the obstruction, in Ashford Road, Cricklewood, was put in the wrong place, which meant it could cause issues for those using buggies or wheelchairs.
The bollard was initially erected to stop motorists driving on the pavement as they tried to bypass measures put in place to reduce traffic in the area.
Responding to residents’ concerns on Twitter, the council explained it was intended to be “closer to the kerb” and would be moved to ensure safe passage for those using the pavement.
It added it would be putting strips in place to improve visibility for those who are partially sighted.
The healthy neighbourhood schemes formed part of the council’s ‘Streetspace’ programme, which used Transport for London funding to encourage “greener, healthier, more active” travel.
A number of street planters were put up to close access to non-local traffic, with the aim of improving air quality and making roads safer.
