Those on benefits in Harrow can access discounted virtual gym passes under a joint venture between the council and a local charity.
Harrow Council announced memberships at Aspire Leisure Centre, in Wood Lane, Stanmore, will be available for just £5 per month across a three-month period for those in receipt of support such as Universal Credit or Jobseeker’s Allowance.
This represents an 80 per cent discount, with monthly prices usually set at £25 – after the first three months, packages will revert to the full amount.
The promotion, which is funded by Harrow Giving, covers 55 memberships, which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Virtual gym programmes have been operating at Aspire since July in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and will continue until at least the end of 2021.
The council explained this offer has only been made available now as the Harrow Giving funding was only recently confirmed.
It encouraged as many people as possible who are eligible to take up the offer and noted even the full amount of £25 is “a great price” for 20 classes per week held over Zoom.
