A car park that was temporarily closed due to continued anti-social behaviour is set to reopen in July.
Harrow Council confirmed the car park in Old Redding, known as The Viewpoint, will soon be available for use again following renovations.
This includes resurfacing to allow for up to 60 cars in marked bays, and a new barrier made of mounded earth to prevent people driving over the adjacent grass.
There had been calls from the public for the council to clarify the situation after signs were put up on the gates announcing “major landscaping works”.
Cllr Varsha Parmar, who is responsible for the environment and climate change at Harrow Council, said: “I am delighted that work has restarted at Old Redding.
“We are putting in place robust measures to deter the anti-social behaviour and damage that led to the site’s closure and it is great to be able to make it publicly accessible again.
“The innovative use of recycled earth from Headstone Manor park is a great example of our commitment to combating the climate emergency.
“I can’t wait until we can safely welcome visitors back to this important landmark.”
It comes following a consultation with residents, councillors, and the Metropolitan Police about how best to move forward at the site.
The council explained the project was halted over the winter due to heavy rainfall and enhanced Covid-19 restrictions.
The Viewpoint was closed last year due to frequent reports of anti-social behaviour, including people littering, damaging bollards, and driving over grass.
It temporarily opened for a brief period around Christmas but was shut soon after following more vandalism reports.
